The weather has not been an ally to me this summer and as a result, Adam’s session had to be rescheduled more than once. I hate it when this happens, but there is literally nothing I can do. Thankfully, we were able to get together last week in Medfield and I am so excited to share a few of my favs from his senior portrait session.

Now…What to say about about Adam. First and foremost, that hair…am I right? It’s amazing.

On a more substantive level, Adam is a kind and genuine young man with a big heart, as evidence things he shared that matter most to him in his life. He values others and sees himself going into some kind of biology field next, if he can pass AP Bio next year! :)

This summer Adam is spending every day working with children ages 4-8 and learning a ton about kids in general. His laid back demeanor and approachable nature is no doubt what makes him so popular with his campers…and also, the hair., of course :)

Adam’s session had some hilarious moments that left his mom and me laughing even after the session. Moments like these are what stick in my mind as being truly authentic and part of the reason I love working with Seniors oh so much.

The question remains: Is it possible that I give a terrible direction just to see what you will do with it with the hopes that I will snap a genuinely, unguarded moment where you just burst out laughing...??? (hmmm….sneaky) You be the judge.

My Personal Senior Portrait Experience with jsniderPHOTO

ME just leaning on a stone column…like one does!

ME just leaning on a stone column…like one does!

It’s Lily again! Today I am talking about my experience with “JSP” when I had my Senior Portraits taken in 2019.

Full disclosure, I knew Julia prior to my session which did put me at ease right off the bat, but even if I hadn’t, I would have been comfortable within a few minutes.

Read on for the details...

My senior portrait/headshot session with JsniderPHOTO was the first time I ever had a professional photoshoot. Even though I had known Julia prior to this experience, I was still feeling a little nervous about being in front of the camera for a long time. I was worried that my skin would look bad, or that my hair would be too frizzy, or that I would have a dreaded case of the “fake” smiles, but as soon as I arrived, I knew that all my worrying was for nothing. I immediately felt comfortable and felt as if I could truly be myself. I was also able to bring my mom along for moral support, which definitely eased my anxiety about the situation. Plus, Julia made her feel welcome as well, giving her tasks to do and she made sure to engage in conversation with the two of us.

I felt like she was genuinely interested in what I had to say and I really felt like she not only cared about my photos but who I was as a person. She let me know exactly how to stand, tilt, lean…all that. Everything I needed to make my photos look confident and relaxed, she took care of it.

Overall, not only was this 100% a positive experience for me, but I also now have some great photos that represent who I was at this moment in my life. Not to mention, Julia submitted my picture into the yearbook for me. (Granted, I had to make sure I gave her the details on time, but still very helpful!)

Having a great session really helped to kickstart my anticipation for my senior year and I was SO excited to share the world photos of me. (Is that narcissistic? No. They’re awesome photos and I look fabulous!)

Why booking your senior portrait session early is a great idea!

With spring quickly coming to an end, a new season is beginning: Senior Portrait Season! Now, you may be saying to yourself “Julia, I am just just finishing junior year, give me a minute!!!” I get it I do, but let me just say, you are going to be way happier and calmer if you book this important event early. Keep reading to find out why.

First things first: Take this short (very scientific, ahem) “self analysis quiz” to assess whether you are the type of Senior who should book their session early:

  1. Prefers to be a leader among your peers, answer questions and help others

  2. Likes to check things off you schedule and to-do list

  3. Is excited about senior year and wants to start it off feeling confident

  4. Tends to grow anxious or overwhelmed in new situations or with new people

  5. Appreciates time to prepare for important activities, events, potentially stressful situations

If you answered YES to one or more of the above, then you are the exact person/personality type who will benefit greatly from booking your senior portrait session early.

Q: What is the #1 reason to book your senior portrait session early ?

A: You’ll have more options than everyone else!!!

Benefits of Booking your Senior Photos Early

  • PEACE OF MIND

    • One major to-do for senior year is off the list

  • FLEXIBILITY

    • The earlier you book, the more flexibility you have to get the exact date, time, location that works best for you

    • If you want a haircut you’ll have time to plan ahead so your stylist is available rather than scrambling to book a last minute trip to the salon

    • If it looks like rain on your session day, there are far more dates from which to choose than if you book last minute

  • GORGEOUS LIGHT

    • The late day, “golden hour” sun in New England is gorgeous for photographs and highly sought after. There are only so many late day sessions available.

  • YOUR CHOICE OF WARDROBE

    • Sundresses, flowing tops and single layer clothing is best in warm weather. While you can wear whatever you would like, your body reacts in colder temps. (pink nose, dripping nose) It’s much easier to throw on a sweater in warm weather for a few shots then to wear a sundress and freeze in the fall.

  • RELAXATION

    • Your Senior Year is going to be stressful enough. Start it off on the right foot and book your photos early so you can lay back and start thinking about where life will take you next.

  • PERKS

    • When people plan ahead for their Senior Photo Session they also receive the benefit of some perks that people who book last minute do not receive. Sometimes it’s extra prints, sometimes it’s credit for additional products. Sometimes it’s actual products that would otherwise cost way more. You just never know…you’ll have to book early to find out.

Senior Portraits- Christian

The eldest of four boys, Christian is the older brother you love and adore, but whose shadow casts a pretty wide net. As if his Kennedy good looks and perfect smile were not enough, he is also captain of the track team and fluent in Latin. (I may be taking some poetic license with the phrase “fluent in Latin”, but it flowed better than “can definitely say hello.” ) From what I understand, Christian thought his session was going to take four hours and be as enjoyable as a root canal. Thankfully, he was entirely mistaken and five minutes into it was clearly not miserable at all. Even high school boys can enjoy being the center of attention for a photo session sometimes. As an added bonus we came up with a bunch of new outfit combos. (kudos to mom for selecting great stuff!)

Senior Portraits- Spencer

Scole-7973_1200.jpg
Scole-2191_1200.jpg

Normally I wouldn’t call someone by their full name, but Spencer Cole is just too darn smooth and dashing sounding to not use in its entirety. Can’t you just imagine a romantic comedy where he runs into an adorable heroine who accidentally spills coffee on him and she looks up into the eyes of none other than “renowned business tycoon Spencer Cole?!” (it is also entirely possible that the ridiculous audio-book, Waiting for Tom Hanks, which I am listening to while editing Spencer Cole’s pictures, is slowly seeping into my subconscious ( Okay, definitely because the “coffee spill” is exactly what just happened in the book!)

Anyway…back to reality. While I certainly can not claim to know Spencer well, what I was able to garner is that he runs track and likes it a lot, speaks Mandarin-which is very difficult, and only resents his parents a little for continuing to have children when they hit it out of the park with him on the first try! His mom, Kiersten was present at the session so I think the last one was more of a family joke. Oh yeah, and most importantly, he is 100% certain he hit the jackpot when he got the amazing Kaylie to go out with him.

Senior Portraits- Zoey

ZPollard-6009_1200.jpg

In the two years I have known Zoey it never occurred to me that she isn’t originally from Massachusetts!. Turns out…nope…she is actually from Texas and her heart is still very much is drawn to her family and friends who live there. Then an even bigger and better revelation occurred (drum roll please) her family runs a Texas Barbecue business complete with a fancy smoker and everything! Well this was music to my ears and I just couldn’t stop asking about it. (Anyone who knows me knows that my partner is a BBQ lover and we have honestly booked trips solely based around BBQ joints) So now I must try Pollard’s Texas Cue as soon as humanly possible. Her mom, Stephanie and her dad, “cool dad” ( let’s say because I don’t know his name) spearhead the business in addition to their day jobs, and the entire family pitches in for events. Sounds like a great gig to me!!!

But back to Zoey…if you did not see her headshot post, check it out here because I gush about how brilliant she is at so many different things.
